Last week, SEACAF had the chance to check in with our national researchers from Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines as part of our ongoing Baseline Research on Academic Freedom in Southeast Asia.
The baseline study also aims to identify best practices and existing gaps in the protection and promotion of academic freedom across the region. By examining how international standards and language on academic freedom are understood and translated into local contexts, the research seeks to highlight both the opportunities and the shortcomings in national policies and practices. This process will not only provide a clearer picture of the state of academic freedom in Southeast Asia but also serve as a foundation for strengthening regional solidarity and advocacy.
We’re looking forward to the insights of our national research collaborators as they map the realities, challenges, case studies, and opportunities facing academic communities in their countries. This co-creation of knowledge will help inform regional strategies to safeguard academic freedom across Southeast Asia.
