In 2025, the Southeast Asia Coalition for Academic Freedom (SEACAF) strengthened its regional presence—growing to over 137 members across Southeast Asia and convening our first membership orientation. In August, we co-hosted the Colloquium on Academic Freedom in Surabaya, advancing discussions toward a regional framework on academic freedom. We also completed national baseline studies across the region, laying the groundwork for research-informed advocacy and stronger monitoring efforts.

Through conferences, public seminars, youth workshops, and regional partnerships, SEACAF continued building a movement to defend academic freedom and uphold democratic principles in academic communities.

As we step into 2026, we recognize that while important foundations have been laid, there is still much work to do and a long road ahead. We remain committed to deepening solidarity, expanding our coalition, and strengthening collective action to defend academic freedom across Southeast Asia!
